No edge to speak of out of the box, but remove the black coating from the edge and spend 5 minutes sharpening and you'll have excellent chopping tool. The handle wasn't that grippy for me but when I've got the time I'll be replacing it with a nice wooden one. The sheath is ok but quite frankly it's tight and hard to put the blade in especially when it's on your belt ( you need two hands 1 to steady the sheath & 1 to push the blade in ) that will be replaced as well. When using it to chop branches in order to build a shooting hide it more than did what was needed.

Looks good out of the box. Nicely weighted heavy blade. No real edge to it, but it's entirely up to you what you do about that. I'm gonna put a mirror on mine and go harvest some sugar cane. Probably won't hold up for long, but I'll let you know how it goes.
