The **KA-BAR 5011** is a legendary fixed knife. In 1942 this knife was used by the United States Marine Corps as a standard fighting knife for the marines. Ever since this knife is a part of the standard equipment of many soldiers. The knife is big and feels very strong. The handle is enhanced with protective parts to make sure you will never end up on the razor-sharp edge during heavy-duty use. The blade is made from 1095-carbon steel. This steel, however, is not corrosion-resistant. Fortunately the blade is enhanced with a black coating to make sure maintenance is a lot easier.


The handle is made from Kraton in the colour Foliage Green, a grey-green colour. This is a rubber-like plastic that is maintenance-free, and offers a lot of grip. This knife is also sold under the number 1211, but with a differently coloured handle and a leather sheath. This fixed knife comes with a plastic sheath.

Schönes Messer,

man sollte sich aber im Klaren sein was man kauft:
- Führungsverbot
- nicht perfekt zum Batonieren / nicht unzerstörbar da dünner als andere Survival Messer in der Größe und dünnere Spitze / kein Fulltang
- Sieht "brutal" aus
-Scheide sehr funktionell und für Links-Rechtsträger geeignet

Ist halt ein Hybrid aus Kampf-/Schneid-/Multifunktionswerkzeug und Made in USA. Perfekt für die Vitrine oder Zombie-Apokalypse.

Hoewel ik nog altijd een groot fan ben van KA-BAR moet ik toch een negatieve review achterlaten wegens een aantal redenen over dit product.

1. De afwerking was niet goed. Er waren zichtbare gleufjes te zien waar ik doorheen kon kijken bij de gedeelte waar de rat-tail tang begint.

2. Naar mijn weten hadden de kraton versies van de USMC modellen een dikkere en kortere handvaten dan de leren varianten. (zoals op de foto te zien). Blijkbaar heeft KA-BAR hier een verandering in gedaan waardoor het handvat dunner en langer is geworden. Tevens voelt het kraton materiaal minder stevig aan dan mijn oudere kraton(zwart) USMC mes.

3. De USA stamp die op de foto te zien is, wordt niet langer meer weergeven op de "ricasso".

Tevens zijn de prijzen van KA-BAR zo erg gestegen dat het gewoon niet meer de juiste prijs en kwaliteitsverhouding meer heeft. 3 jaar geleden was het nog veel mes voor het geld.
