The **Bark River Gunny** is a more compact version of the Bravo 1. Originally this knife was designed for (para)military use. Soon, however, it became clear that this knife could do so much more. Today the Gunny is a popular knife among bushcraft enthusiasts and hunters. It is solidly constructed, with enough blade thickness for more demanding tasks. At the same time, it's lightweight enough to take with you on hikes. This is an ideal knife that can be used for many purposes.



The spine of the blade has a ramp, which is a small protrusion with serrations on one side. Intuitively the ramp appears to be a little too far back for natural placement of the thumb. However, you're meant to place your thumb just in front of the ramp. This makes it easier to apply force during tasks that require greater precision. The serrated edge of the ramp is shaped to make it really easy to produce sparks with a firesteel.



The blade is made from A2 tool steel, a strong steel that would rather bend than break. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. Make sure to clean it after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has a convex grind that can be maintained by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm).



The handle is made from micarta, which is a strong and lightweight material made from linen and synthetic resin. It feels comfortable in hand, even in wet or cold conditions.



The Bark River Gunny comes with a leather belt sheath. You can carry it either upright (belt width up to 5.5 cm) or diagonally (belt width up to 6.0 cm). The sheath also has a loop for a firesteel (max. diameter ~7.0 mm).



Bark River Knives makes all of its knives almost entirely by hand. This means that each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials, a knife may differ from the photos. Therefore the knife you receive might be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
