The **Bark River Gunny Hunter** is a compacter version of the Bravo 1. Originally this knife was designed for (para)military use, specifically for the U.S. Marine Corps. Soon, however, it became evident that this knife can be used for so much more purposes. Throughout the years the Bravo 1 LT even became a popular knife amongst bushcrafters and hunters. It has a solid construction and a thick enough blade for heavy-duty tasks. At the same time it is light enough for hikes. An ideal knife you can use for many things. This special Hunter edition of the Gunny has been enhanced with a *Saber Grind*. This means that the grind is slightly different from the grind on the regular Gunny. The Hunter is slightly thinner behind the edge making it the perfect knife for camping tasks and hunting purposes. In addition, the Gunny Hunter does not have a jimping or a *thumb ramp*.


The blade is made from Böhler Elmax steel. An extremely stainless type of steel which retains its sharpness well. It is the ultimate combination of the abrasion-resistance of carbon steel with the corrosion resistant aspect of a stainless type of steel. The edge has a convex grind which you can keep in great shape by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm).


The handle is made from canvas micarta. A strong and light-weight type of material, made from linen and synthetic resin. Feels great in hand, even in cold or wet circumstances.


The Bark River Gunny Hunter comes with a leather belt sheath (max. belt width 5.0 cm).


Bark River makes most of its knives by hand. As a result each knife is unique. Especially when you use natural materials the knife can sometimes look different than it does on the photograph. Something to keep in mind when you receive your knife! The model and type of material will, however, always be the same.

Bei Bark River gibt es wohl Qualitätsschwankungen bei der Fertigung der Messer. Ich habe mit dem Gunny Hunter ein absolut einwandfreies Exemplar erhalten. Da bei Bark River viel in Handarbeit gefertigt wird, muss man mit kleinen Ungenauigkeiten leben. Das Messer ist absolut empfehlenswert und für den normalen Ausflug ins Grüne und kleinere Outdooraktivitäten genau richtig. Nicht zu groß und nicht zu klein. Die Schnittleistung ist hervorragend und durch die Ausführung in Elmax Stahl ist die Schnitthaltigkeit und Rostbeständigkeit hervorragend. Man muss natürlich akzeptieren, dass es gleichwertige Messer von anderen Herstellern zu einem günstigeren Preis gibt. Bark River ist eben teuer. Aber wer bereit ist das Geld auszugeben, wird einen treuen Begleiter für viele Gelegenheiten und Jahre sein Eigen nennen.
