The **Bark River Bravo Vortex Desert Ironwood** is a slightly longer and narrower version of the Bravo 1. Originally the Bravo collection was designed for (para)military use, specifically for the U.S. Marine Corps. Soon, however, it became clear that these knives could do so much more. This Bravo Vortex has an even more versatile design than the original Bravo. It's an ideal knife for woodworking, gutting game and many other outdoor tasks.

# Bark River Vortex CPM 3V steel blade:

The blade is made from CPM 3V steel, a tool steel that is known for its exceptional strength. It is very hard to break, and also retains its sharpness well. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: CPM 3V is not completely stainless. Make sure to clean the knife after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to keep it in great shape. The edge has a convex grind that can be maintained by stropping it. 

# Bark River Vortex Desert Ironwood handle:

The handle is made from Desert Ironwood, a type of hardwood mainly found in the United States and Mexico. It has a distinctive colour and a beautiful grain. This stunning wood makes the knife look extra luxurious.

On the spine of the blade you'll find the 'ramp', which is a small protrusion with serrations on one side. Intuitively the ramp appears to be a little too far back for natural placement of the thumb. However, you're meant to place your thumb just in front of the ramp. This makes it easier to apply force during tasks that require greater precision. 

## Differences for the experts:

This Bravo Vortex has some differences compared to the Bravo Vortex A. If you look closely, you'll see that this Bark River doesn't have a false edge grind, but a sabre grind. Still with a convex grind, of course. Besides that, this handle doesn't have the thumb indent. 

The Bark River Bravo Vortex comes with a luxurious leather belt sheath. You can carry it in many ways, both horizontally and vertically (max. belt width 6.5 cm for vertical, 5.0 cm for horizontal carry). 

Bark River Knives makes all of its knives almost entirely by hand. This means that each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials, a knife may differ from the photos. Therefore the knife you receive might be subtly different from the product photos. The model and the type of material, however, will always be the same.

Prachtig mes; in het echt nog mooier dan op de foto. Shaving sharp. De schede vind ik minder mooi, dat was eerder bij Bark River wel beter. Eigenlijk zijn (alle) messen in Nederland te duur vergeleken met prijzen in bijvoorbeeld USA. Daar zal wel een reden voor zijn en ik had het er dit keer wel voor over.
Erg mooie handgreep. Ligt heerlijk in de hand met uitstekende balans. Niet een licht mes, dus kijk even naar gewicht als je denkt dit aan te schaffen. 
Al met al ben ik heel erg blij met deze Vortex.
