The **Benchmade Altitude** is an incredibly light fixed knife made from amazing materials. Benchmade has added the Altitude to the *Hunting* collection. Nevertheless, the name probably already suggests were the inspiration came from: mountaineering. After all, with a weight of only 47 grams (70 grams with sheath) it is a very light-weight option.


If you are looking to save some weight you definitely don’t want to bring sharpening stones to join you on your adventure. For this reason Benchmade has chosen a wonderful type of steel for this pocket knife: CPM S90V. This is a stainless type of steel that retains its sharpness really well. As such you rarely have to sharpen the knife which is great when you are on the road. However, leaving it out and close to salt or fruit acids could create some spots over time. For this reason Benchmade has enhanced the altitude with a bright-orange DLC coating to also make sure you won’t lose it that easily. DLC stands for Diamond Like Coating. An incredibly hard coating that is also very sustainable.


Because the thin handle doesn’t provide much grip Benchmade has enhanced it with a small block of carbon fibre. It doesn’t seem much, but once you start using it you will notice the enormous effect the little block has on the ergonomics of the knife. In addition, the handle takes care of enough grip for the kydex sheath.
