The **Mcusta MC-SY001 Shinwa Yatagarasu Limited Edition** is a remarkable gentleman’s knife with an amazing story. The first thing you notice is the three-legged bird that is flying over the damascus steel clouds towards the bronze rising sun. The bird is made from a piece of brass and placed in a dark-blue corian sky. A real work of art.


This knife is part of Mcusta’s new Shinwa collection. A collection of knives that focuses on Japanese mythology. The three-legged bird that adorns the handle is also called Yatagarasu. A legendary bird. The three legs represent the sky, the earth and humanity. According to the legend Yatagarasu brought the first emperor and founder of Japan, Jimmu, to Yamatono Kashihara to build the first royal palace.


The story behind this knife is not the only thing remarkable about this knife. The Shinwa Yatagarasu was produced completely according to Japanese traditions. The blade is made from carbon steel with layers of brass and copper. As such you are left with a nice patina on the blade after a while. Just like on traditional Japanese chef’s knives. A lot of manual labour went into this knife, and you can tell.


The Mcusta MC-SY001 Shinwa Yatagarasu Limited Edition is delivered in a nice wooden box placed in a Nishijin sheath. Nishijin stands for a 1200 year old traditional Japanese weaving technique in which the yarn is first dyed after which beautiful multi-coloured patterns can be made.

Das Messer ist zu schwer für die Hosentasche, die Verarbeitung läßt zu wünschen übrig, man kann das zusammen-gefügte sehen, Der Griff schwarzer Plastik. Der 3 beinige Adler / Geier ist rau. Das ganze kam in einem billigen Holzkistchen, und das Messer eingewickelt in ein Stück Stoff, wo man einige Zeit braucht um es zu befreien. Positiv ist seine Schärfe Für mich ganz klar zu teuer. Für den Preis gibt es besseres. Eigentlich hätte ich es zurück schicken müssen.
