The **Victorinox 1897 Replica Limited Edition Swiss pocket knife** takes you back to 1897. The year in which Karl Elsener I created the Swiss Officer’s & Sport Knife. The first model of the type of pocket knife we now know as the Swiss Army Knife. With this replica Victorinox celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Swiss pocket knife. They tried to stay true to the original design and tools from that time as much as possible. But with small adjustments to the springs to make sure opening and closing the tools is safer.

## Authentic tools made from modern stainless steel

Especially for this replica Victorinox recreated all authentic tools. Not only for the vintage vibes, but also to remain true to the original. And that wasn’t easy! Completely different from the mass production work Victorinox normally focuses on. The original was enhanced with tools made from carbon steel. Only from 1921 onwards stainless steel became the norm when producing a Swiss pocket knife. And yet Victorinox chose to use modern stainless steel for this replica. Mostly to make sure you can enjoy the Replica 1897 as long as possible!

Of course, the packaging is just as special as the pocket knife. The packaging tells you the story of Victorinox and the Officer’s & Sports Knife. The Replica 1897 is wrapped in a canvas sheath and the whole is placed in a plastic time capsule in which you can safely store the knife. On to the next 125 years!

## Limited edition
This replica of the first Swiss pocket knife was only produced 9.999 times. Each knife is individually numbered with a matching certificate. You can find the unique number on the back of the corkscrew.

## Victorinox Replica 1897: then vs now
In terms of tools and design the Replica 1897 is similar to the original. There are, however, a couple differences with the modern Swiss pocket knives which are fun to discuss.

### The tools:
The flathead screwdriver is not enhanced with a bottle opener. Fun fact: there was no need for this tool back in the day because crown caps were not yet popular in 1897. In addition, the large blade is more pointed and the small blade has a clip point shape instead of a drop point shape. The awl is a lot thicker and the corkscrew is also shaped differently. Finally, the can opener is a lot slimmer. Like the openers from the past where you pierce the can instead of cut it open. Like the original, the replica is not enhanced with a tooth pick or tweezers in the handle.

### The scales
The famous Victorinox emblem was placed on the handle of the Swiss pocket knives in 1909. That is why the Replica 1897 is also not enhanced with one. Like the original, the scales are made from vulcanized rubber. A nice detail are the visible rivets that were used to secure the scales.

There is no need to emphasize the exclusivity of the Replica 1897. Most of the 9.999 unique pieces are already sold out.
