The **Spyderco Sage 5** is the newest incarnation in the legendary collection of Sage pocket knives. The shape is the same as the other Sage models, but the lock and materials differ again. 


For the Sage 5 Spyderco used the incredibly popular *Compression Lock*. This lock became famous because of the Paramilitary 2 models. It works as sort of a reverse linerlock. The controls are on the spine of the handle. The way it locks is also different. A linerlock, for instance, only falls against the blade. The lockbar of a Compression Lock falls into the cut-out in the blade and gets caught in between the blade and stop pin. As a result this lock is one of the strongest on the market. Spyderco fans asked for more models with a Compression Lock for a long time and this Sage 5 is the answer to that question. 

 The scales of the *Spyderco Sage 5* are made from G10. It is a version on which carbon fibre is laminated. As such you benefit from the strength of the G10, but are still left with the stunning look and feel of the carbon fibre. The best of both worlds. The Sage 5 is enhanced with steel liners. Barely visible from the outside because they are inserted in the inside of the scales. Difficult to produce, but with stunning results. The combination of these materials and techniques also ensure a greatly reduced weight. The Sage 5 barely weighs 88 grams and is therefore one of the lightest pocket knives in this class. 

 You can easily open the blade with the help of the large thumb hole. Typical for a Spyderco pocket knife: The blade is made from CPM S30V steel. For years it has been a popular choice in the high-end pocket knife world.

 All in all, the Spyderco Sage 5 is a great example of technology. A desired knife that belongs in every pocket knife collection.

 Part of the proceeds from the Sage 5 is donated to the National Alzheimer's Association in Denver, Colorado.

Vraiment bien, petit bémol.... Le prix.


Mooi ontworpen mes met een erg goede ergonomie. De handle is een mix van G10 en carbonfiber, heeft voldoende grip en is bovendien mooi om te zien.
Het lemmet van CPM S30V is op zich prima, maar in deze prijsklasse mag het wat mij betreft een beter staalsoort zijn. 
Een groot pluspunt is de Compression Lock, dit is, wat mij betreft, het beste vergrendelingsysteem.
De Sage 5 G10/Carbon is gewoon één van de betere spyderco’s

Das Spyderco Sage 5 erhält von mir eine klare Kaufempfehlung. Die Griffschalen haben einen sehr guten Gripp und fühlen sich angenehm "samtig" an. Die Klingenform überzeugt mich total, denn dem Design nach erinnern sie mich an an Cheburkov Tukan. (topp)
Der Klipp ist sehr unauffällig und tut trotzdem einen sehr guten Dienst. 
Der Compressionlock ist SUPER, kenne keine bessere Art zu ver- und entriegeln. 
Das Messer flippt nach spätestens 3 Tagen echt gut.
Das Highlight gegenüber beispielsweise dem Para 3 ist, dass das Messer (für mich enorm wichtig) sehr leicht zu zerlegen ist. 
Das ist keine Lobhudelei. Nein!
Ich bereuhe den Kauf des Messers zu keinem Tag.

Das Sage 5 hat meiner Meinung nach sehr alltagstaugliche Abmessungen. Obwohl die Klinge fast genau so lang ist, wie die eines Manix 2, ist der Griff ein gutes Stück kürzer. Trotzdem liegt es perfekt in der Hand, wenn man den Choil benutzt. Das compression lock funktioniert einwandfrei und auch ansonsten ist das Messer sehr präzise gefertigt - lediglich das Finish finde ich bei den Produkten aus Golden, Colorado einen Tick besser. Alles in allem auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert!
