The Bark River Sahara Hunter is a stunning hunting knife, designed when hunting all types of game. The handle is ergonomically shaped and, as such, perfect for long-term use. The blade is enhanced with quite the belly. Great when gutting game: it means you can never unintentionally damage something. The spine of the tip is enhanced with a false edge, a so-called swedge. As such the blade shape might remind you of a classic clippoint. The Sahara Hunter is a hunting knife that will at home in any hunting field.
The blade is made from A2 tool steel. A strong type of steel that would rather bend than break. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. So clean it after use and occasionally add a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has been enhanced with a convex grind which you can maintain by stropping it.
The handle is made from Chechen Burl wood. This is a root wood from the Metopium brownei tree. You can find this tree in Central America and the Caribbean. This type of wood is enhanced with an amazing pattern. The colour varies from dark (red)brown to light-brown, almost greyish.
The Bark River Sahara Hunter comes with a leather belt sheath. You can carry it both straight (belt width up to 5.5 cm) and diagonally (belt width up to 6.0 cm). The sheath also has a loop for a firesteel (max. diameter ~7.0 mm).
Bark River makes all of its knives almost completely by hand. As such each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials a knife can differ from the photographs. The knife you receive can therefore be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
