The **Benchmade Barracuda** is a solid pocket knife, made to be used. This pocket knife was named after the Barracuda, a large elongated sea pike. Like this predatory fish the Bestech Barracuda is enhanced with a streamlined and pointed design. You can clearly tell that this pocket knife was designed based on this fish. Very interesting!



The Bestech Barracuda can handle its own. The wharncliffe-shaped blade is made from D2 steel. This is a robust type of steel that won't easily break and retains its sharpness well. The G10 handle is enhanced with elongated grooves that provide you with additional grip as you hold the Barracuda. You quickly open the Barracuda with the flipper which is enhanced with ridges to make sure your finger doesn't slide off the flipper tab The decorated pivot screw, the cut-out in the flipper-tab and the swedge on the blade are interesting details. They make the knife look cool and unique. With the deep-carry pocket clip you can easily and discretely carry the knife in your pocket.

Donne une bonne première impression. L'ouverture a cessé de fonctionner correctement 2 jours après quelques tests. La lame commence à jouer et n'est plus centrée. Pas d'outils fournis pour serrer. Je n'achèterai plus cette marque. 

Voor de prijs is dit een mes van erg hoge kwaliteit. Ten eerste heb ik geen manier kunnen vinden om de behuizing van het mes te vervormen. Wel denk ik tegelijkertijd dat die behuizing iets steviger kan.

Wat betreft handzaamheid ligt het mes vrij goed, met de punt van het handvat net lichtelijk tegen het zachte binnenste van je hand. Hiervan kun je geen pijn ondervinden, Ook is de behuizing ietsjes gewelfd (concaaf) zodat de rest van je vingers ook enige steun vinden.

Wel zit er een vrij groot onscherp gedeelte aan het mes. Welke functie dat vervult is mij niet duidelijk. Misschien dat je het kunt gebruiken als je iets wat harder moet snijden, en dus je vinger iets dichter op het mes moet houden. Verder weet ik het niet.

Het handvat mocht wel iets meer textuur hebben. Immers, je vingers liggen op een gedeelte met rechte strepen, maar dat geeft niet superveel grip. Het kan veel erger, maar kan ook net ietsjes beter. 

De bovenkant van de behuizing doet denken aan de schubben van een vis, wat vrij logisch is gezien de naam Barracuda. Ik ben er niet zo'n groot fan van omdat het eruitziet alsof er een blokjespatroon gecombineerd is met een chevronpatroon, waardoor het een beetje een chaos lijkt. Dat is vast de bedoeling om het er wat meer 'natuurlijk' uit te laten zien, maar ik had liever gewoon wat kleine chevrons.

Maar goed, voor deze prijs zou ik niet te veel verwachtingen hebben als je eenmaal doorhebt hoe stevig het lemmet is - daar is duidelijk al het werk in gaan zitten. Zo kun je het mes niet bewegen of vervormen als je eraan trekt van links naar rechts; het blijft perfect zitten in de 'schede', als je het zo wilt noemen. Daarnaast is het lemmet vlijmscherp.

Één minpuntje betreft het lijnenwerk van het lemmet, en wel de scheiding tussen het zwartgeverfde gedeelte met het bovenste zwarte randje en het zilverkleurige/metaalkleurige gedeelte. Dat stukje was eerst mooi scherp afgetekend, maar is na een paar maanden ietsjes vaag geworden... dat terwijl ik het mes nog niet heb hoeven gebruiken.

Voor de rest is dit mes immens stijlvol zonder er schreeuwerig of puberaal uit te zien, wat een toch vrij belangrijke reden is waarom ik het heb gekocht. Het handvat is zwart, en het grootste gedeelte van het lemmet ook. De clip die aan het handvat zit past qua kleur perfect bij de rest van het lemmet, waardoor alles mooi in balans is. 

Al met al: stevig en intimiderend doch elegant. Het is klassiek zoals een mooie oude zwarte vleugelpiano, maar zelfs voor de meest edgy goth nog acceptabel. Ondanks de leeftijd van het mes, werkte het uitklapmechanisme ook nog wel prima.

Naar mijn mening een goede koop.
