The blade is made from 1075 carbon steel. This is a strong and tough type of steel, but it is not stainless. You'll need to clean it regularly and add a drop of oil once in a while. Many people take this for granted though, because 1075-carbon steel excels in both toughness and ease of sharpening. It's easy to sharpen at home and can take a beating.

The oval-shaped handle is made from American Hickory wood. The steel extends into the handle with a so-called stick-tang. Strong enough, and also very comfortable because your hand will not touch the cold steel.
