The KA-BAR 5017 USMC is a legendary fixed knife. In 1942 this knife was used by the United States Marine Corps as a standard fighting knife for the marines. Ever since this knife is a part of the standard equipment of many soldiers. The knife is big and feels very strong. The handle is enhanced with a knife guard to make sure you will never end up on the razor-sharp edge during heavy-duty use. The blade is made from 1095-carbon steel. This steel, however, is not corrosion-resistant. Fortunately the blade is enhanced with a black coating to make sure maintenance is a lot easier. The handle is made from stacked leather rings. It feels comfortable in hand, even in the freezing cold.

the KA-BAR 5017 is one of the best if not THE best general purpose knife on the market, not too heavy & not too light, fits the hand well and could be chopping wood for your camp fire one minute and then butchering a side of meat to cook on the fire, secondary to how well it works, it has classic lines and the 70 odd year old design with Leather handle is very pleasing to the eye and you feel a sense of the history behind it, and Yes,... the first thing I tried it on was to shave the back of my forearm, just to see if it was able, and it was, you CAN shave with this knife, something I have never been able to do with any of the many knives I have owned,... 100% a keeper, I am VERY happy with it and sure anyone who buys one will also be more than happy with it
