The **LionSteel KUR** is a stunning Italian pocket knife, designed by Michele 'moletta' Pensato. The beautiful lines in this design stand out. This typical example of Italian design doesn't only look amazing, it also feels great in hand. The handle is made from G10. For extra grip the handle is enhanced with a nice grip pattern. The blade is made from Sleipner steel from Austria. This is type of tool steel that is known for the great balance between sharpness retention and strength. Do, however, be careful around acids, moisture and salt: tool steel is not completely stainless. So clean and dry it after use. The blade is enhanced with a cool stonewashed finish. As such traces of use don't stand out. So a perfect choice for daily use.




The blade runs on ball bearings and therefore moves smoothly. As such it is not that surprising it opens quickly with the help of the flipper. When opened the blade is kept in place by a solid liner lock. A great technical detail for the enthusiasts: the KUR is enhanced with a ceramic detent ball. Ceramics is even harder than steel and prevents wear and tear in the long run.




You can carry the LionSteel KUR with help of the subtle pocket clip. With it you can carry it deep inside your pocket. The attachment of the clip is nicely hidden in the titanium backspacer. As such you won't be bothered by ugly mounting holes. The LionSteel KUR is a great knife for daily use. An epitome of Italian design, combined with technical perfection.

Geweldig en mooi mes. Ligt heel lekker in de hand. Lekker groot en zwaar. Typisch Moletta ontwerp met allerlei hoekjes, vlakjes en structuren. Ik vind de gladde, afgeronde, titanium backspacer erg fijn. Daar glijdt je hand probleemloos langs als het mes in je broekzak zit en je je hand in die broekzak steekt.
Het geleverde mes was de vernieuwde versie met de afneembare flipper tab. Dus iets anders dan op de foto's. Alleen in de lionSTEEL catalogus van 2020 staat de juiste versies. Alle andere foto's op deze site en op de lionSTEEL site zijn van de originele versie met de vaste flipper tab met dat gaatje erin.
Ik ben niet erg weg van de pocket clip maar hij voldoet in de praktijk erg goed. Ik vind 'm alleen niet zo mooi.
Ik vind het een prachtig blad en mooi ook met die afgeronde bovenkant. Dit mes staat momenteel op de tweede plaats van mijn persoonlijke top drie.

Het is een prima mes, dat scherp aankomt.

Het is een redelijk groot mes en ik gebruik het als een EDC, het lemmet is breed, waardoor sommige alle daagse taken niet altijd erg handig zijn (denk aan een appeltje schillen, dan ligt het mes erg breed in de hand.

Het is een erg solide mes !  een dikke tak afhakken (4cm diameter ) is geen probleem, en het blijft dan ook nog scherp.
Het sleipner staal is tot nu toe redelijk ongevoelig voor verkleuring en roest.
Het flippen gaat redelijk zwaar ( onderdeel van de solide bouw)

Het slijpen van het lemmet is prima te doen ( ik onderhoud het via stroppen)

ik had al de nodige filmpjes gezien van de KUR .
Maar toen ik dit mes in handen kreeg was ik meteen verkocht !
Wat een mooie mix van Italiaanse ontwerpkunst en compromisloos construeren .

Het mes heeft fijn in de hand liggende G-10 greepschalen die van een  ribbelpatroon zijn voorzien voor nog betere grip en 3D zijn gefreesd .
De grotere broer van de framelock TRE zeg maar .
Maar dit mes heeft fraai gemaakte liners van gehard RVS ( waar andere fabrikanten hun lemmets van maken ) die haast verstop en strak passend verzonken zitten in de G-10 schalen .
Alleen de ( ook weer 3D gefreesde ) lip voor het ontgrendelen zie je zitten .
De lockup is helemaal volgens het boekje ( de lockbar zit precies een dikke mm achter het lemmet ) en de lockbar  is voorzien van een keramische kogel voor zeer lange levensduur .
Alle vormen van de greep en lockbar zijn zo gekozen dat het geheel in geopende toestand als een  passende puzzel in elkaar grijpt , waardoor het erg goed in de hand ligt .

Het lemmet is full flat grind Sleipner en afgewerkt met een mooie stonewash en komt zeer scherp uit de verpakking .
Nergens scherpe kanten aan het lemmet behalve de snede !
Het staal is niet zo roestvrij als andere staalsoorten en het mes heeft om die reden wat extra zorg nodig na gebruik , het is echter wel bijzonder slijtvast .
Simpel afspoelen en zorgvuldig afdrogen van het lemmet kan ik aanbevelen .
Het lemmet loopt op kogellagers , aan de ene kant op het harde lemmet en aan de andere kant op het geharde RVS staal , in mijn ogen de best mogelijke oplossing .

Het mes is voorzien van een flipper en knalt werkelijk open !
Het mes is trouwens ook discreet met twee handen te openen met slechts een mooie klik van het vergrendelen.

Ik heb het mes nu 2 weken in gebruik en ben nog steeds verrast .
Verrast door de scherpe prijs , de prachtige details zoals de bouten met typische lionsteel driehoekige koppen waardoor ze niet kunnen draaien bij los- of vastdraaien .
verrast door de mooie mix van elegant Italiaans en rauwe kracht  .
Doet me denken aan Ducati motoren !
Verrast ook door de zeer mooi bevestigde dikke draadclip die goed bij het stoere uiterlijk past en zeer stabiel is en tevens naar de andere kant te verplaatsen is zodat linkshandigen ( en ik ben linkshandig )  ook veilig en handig met dit mes overweg kunnen .
De bevestiging van die clip is onzichtbaar weggewerkt in de titanium backspacer .

Een echte aanrader dus want in gebruik blijkt het mes ook nog eens heerlijk te snijden :-)
