The Shapton Glass Diamond Lapping Plate is a great lapping plate for your Shapton Glass sharpening stones. You can use the best sharpening stones out there, but if they are not flat you won’t use them to their full extent. For this reason it is important to lap your stones. For the Shapton Glass sharpening stones we recommend this Lapping Plate. Completely designed based on the look and feel of the Glass collection, but, of course, also great when you own different sharpening stones. The grooves in the stone help you take care of the sharpening slurry. They will collect the slurry and make sure that the diamond stone can do what it is meant to do.
How do you use the Shapton Diamond Lapping Plate?
Add water to your diamond stone and make it really wet. In fact: the more water the better, so we usually use the lapping plate in a sink, under a running tap. The water will make sure that the slurry will quickly be removed from the stone which makes lapping easier and quicker
Before you start draw a grid on top of your sharpening stone with a pencil. This will help you determine how long you need to continue lapping your stone. It also ensures that you won’t remove too much material.
You place the stone you need to lap on the lapping stone and move it diagonally from corner to corner. This diagonal movement will ensure that you use the entire surface of the stone and that your sharpening stone will evenly be lapped.
