Spyderco introduced the Byrd collection as a more affordable alternative for the famous, but often more expensive Spyderco knives. 

The knives are produced in China based on Spyderco's quality standards using good designs and materials. 

The blades are made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which is comparable to the Japanese AUS8 stainless steel in terms of quality. 

The Byrd Robin model with stainless steel handle is a good example. 

The modified clip point blade is easy to open one-handed with the comet-shaped hole in the blade. When opened, a reliable back lock holds the blade in place. 

As an extra safety precaution this back-lock has been enhanced with a so-called Boye-dent; a crescent-shaped cut-out that makes sure the knife won't close during heavy-duty use. 

This knife is enhanced with a decent pocket clip you can attach in two different ways. It enables you to choose between a 'tip-up' or 'tip-down' carry.

Erg prettig mesje. Ligt goed in de hand, is (volgens degene die 'm voor me slijpt) goed slijpbaar.

Op het mechaniek zit gewoonweg geen enkele speling, en is heel soepel. 't voelt gewoon als een "echte" spyderco. 

Als ik een nadeel moest bedenken, is het dat het handvat vrij krasgevoelig is. Maar dat is natuurlijk inherent aan een mesje als dit, en een gebruikt uiterlijk misstaat ook zeker niet. 

Al met al zeer tevreden :)

Voor zijn lengte is het mesje een beetje zwaar en clunky, en het opent niet heel soepel. Aan de andere kant ligt het wel lekker in de hand en ik vind de RVS-grepen wel mooi. Daarom kocht ik hem ook: ik had nog geen RVS byrd.
Hij stijgt niet echt uit boven de concurrentie maar ik heb geen spijt van de aankoop: wat hij moet doen doet hij prima. Is het een aanrader? Dat blijft een kwestie van smaak.

This knife is awesome and a fantastic value for money. 
For me is has a very nice size for a EDC. 
One special thing about this knife, is very practical for me. 
It does not have any screws to hold the knife together. This means that you don't have to tighten the screw that holds the blade, which with other knifes loosens tension when you have used it for a while. 
This knive holds the same tension all the time. 
But I do not know how to take the knife apart, so maybe not being able to clean it properly could be an issue over time. 
However this knife gets 10/10 from me. 

Günstiges funktionales Messer. Sehr gut gefertigt, geht leicht auf, verriegelt Vertauenserweckend, brauchbarer Stahl, Clip lässt sich in allen Himmelsrichtungen positionieren. kleiner Abzug beim Finish. Tolles Messer, nur zum Protzen taugt es nicht.
