The **Spyderco PITS 2 Slipit C269TIP Titanium, Böhler M398** is a remarkable collaboration between British knife maker Mike Read and Spyderco. His first collaboration with Spyderco, the PITS (an abbreviation of ‘Pie in the Sky’, Read's forum name on UK knife forums), redefined the concept of the classic non-locking, slipjoint pocket knife. The PITS 2 takes it to the next level.

The PITS 2's unique slipjoint mechanism uses two spring arms integrated into the titanium handle, which adjust as the blade opens. The front ends of these spring arms, which support the hinge screw of the blade, bend with it when the blade is opened. They exert pressure on the hinge screw, so that the back of the blade presses against the stop-pin and is thus under pressure. As a result, the PITS 2 functions like a ‘normal’ slipjoint pocket knife. But instead of the lock pressing on the blade, the blade presses against the stop-pin.



The blade of this knife is enhanced with a 'satin finish'. This is a chic and tasteful finish that is very popular.



## Titanium handle

The handle of this Spyderco  is made of titanium and measures 9.6 cm in length. Titanium is a fantastic high-tech material. It is an excellent choice for the handle of a pocket knife for several reasons: titanium is very strong, lightweight and it is flexible. Moreover, titanium can be machined very precisely and a wide range of different finishes are possible. To be exact, the handle is made of a titanium alloy. Small amounts of aluminium and vanadium are added to pure titanium to make it even more suitable for use as a pocket knife handle.



## Spyderco: great pioneer in the world of knives
Spyderco is one of the world's leading knife companies. Many innovations were made by this brand, think of the pocket clip, the thumb hole, a large range of locking mechanisms, but also steel types. It's safe to say the knife world would have looked very different indeed without Spyderco.

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Interestingly, they didn't start out selling knives. The first product Sal and Gail sold was a soldering tool, which they sold travelling around markets. Then came a sharpening system, causing Sal to start experimenting with pocket knives. In his quest for a knife that was easier to open with one hand, he came up with the idea for a round thumb hole while experimenting. A stroke of pure genius.

Today, the next generation is at the helm of Spyderco. Eric Glesser, the son of Sal and Gail, works hard every day to further establish Spyderco as a leading knife brand.
