Rechargeable fans

A rechargeable fan keeps you cool where there is no socket, at the campsite, in the tent, at a festival, in the car or at your desk. These compact fans run on a rechargeable battery, weigh little and fit easily in your backpack. Some models also spread a fine water mist.

Features of rechargeable fans

Rechargeable fans run on a built-in rechargeable battery or a replaceable battery and charge via USB-C. You can hold the smallest models in your hand or wear them around your neck. You can clip a clip-on fan to a tent pole or a chair, and a table model blows a lot more air. If the fan has a mist function, it also spreads a fine water vapour that lowers the perceived temperature even further.

You really notice the difference on a hot, sweaty festival day. A handheld fan or a neck fan gives you fresh air and cooling straight away in the queue, in the tent or in front of the stage, exactly where the crowds and the sun make it feel stuffy.

How do you choose the best rechargeable fan?

Which fan works best depends mainly on where you use it and how long you have it switched on each day.

  • A handheld fan fits in your jacket pocket and often weighs less than 200 grams. A table model is larger and heavier, but blows much more air.
  • On the lowest setting, a good fan will often last a whole day. On the highest setting, only a few hours remain, so look at the runtime per setting and not just at the maximum.
  • USB-C is the standard for charging. A model with a replaceable 18650 or 21700 rechargeable battery keeps working as long as you bring a spare rechargeable battery, which is useful on a multi-day trip.
  • You can clip a clip-on fan to a tent pole, pram or desk edge. A neck fan keeps your hands free.
  • A mist function noticeably lowers the perceived temperature, but you do need to refill the reservoir.
