Features of Musashi kitchen knives

Musashi is a Japanese knife brand that has been working with specialised craftsmen from different parts of Japan since 2020. One forges the blade, while others focus on sharpening, engraving or making handles. For this, Musashi works with craftsmen from well-known knife-making regions such as Sakai, Sanjo and Miki, among others.

This collaboration creates a great deal of variety. Different Japanese steel types, traditional forging techniques, distinctive blade finishes and striking handles come together within one brand. In this way, Musashi combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with carefully composed kitchen knives of the highest quality.

Musashi series

Musashi does not work with fixed series as you see with many other brands. Instead, the range revolves around carefully selected combinations of steel types, blade finishes and handles. In this, not only the material but also the finish and colour of the handle play a role. This creates a varied range in which each combination determines the character of the knife.

Musashi product types

At Musashi, you will mainly find traditional Japanese knife shapes, each with its own function in the kitchen. The gyuto is a versatile chef's knife for meat, fish and vegetables, while the nakiri, with its straight edge, is particularly suitable for finely and efficiently cutting vegetables. You use the compact petty for smaller and more precise cutting tasks, such as peeling and portioning fruit and vegetables. The kiritsuke combines a long, relatively straight blade with a sharp point, making it suitable for both precise cutting work and longer, smooth cuts. Which one suits you best mainly depends on what you often cut, which cutting technique you prefer and, quite simply, which one you like the look of most.

History of Musashi

Musashi is a Japanese knife brand that takes its name from Miyamoto Musashi, the famous 17th-century samurai and swordsman. In Japan, his name symbolises swordsmanship, discipline and craftsmanship, qualities that fit well with the tradition of Japanese knife-making.

Since 2020, Musashi Knives has been working with specialised craftsmen from different parts of Japan. Regions such as Sakai, Seki and Tosa each have their own history, techniques and specialities, and it is precisely this variety that is reflected in the collection.

In 2023, Musashi opened its first physical shop in Kappabashi, Tokyo. The brand now has several of its own shops in Japan, including in Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kanazawa and Tsushima. In 2026, Musashi brought its knives to Europe more prominently. The brand opened shops in Paris and became part of the Knivesandtools range. In this way, the Japanese kitchen knives reached a much larger European audience in a short time.
