About BioLite

BioLite's founders Jonathan and Alec met at Smart Design in New York. There, they soon shared their interest in developing sustainable products. Alec found it strange that almost all efficient stoves required fossil fuels. He therefore had the idea of a wood-burning stove that could use its own thermal energy to improve combustion. Together with Jonathan's technical expertise, they began the design process. Countless hours, days and prototypes later, the BioLite CampStove was born. In 2008, Jonathan and Alec took a working prototype of the CampStove to a conference where they discovered that their technology could have a big impact. Almost half the people on the planet lack clean and affordable household energy, cook meals on smoky fireplaces and have little or no electricity in their homes. That is why Jonathan and Alec have committed to building a company capable of delivering energy to those who need it most.
