Güde Alpha type of steel
The blades of Güde Alpha kitchen knives are made of ice-hardened chromium-vanadium-molybdenum steel with a hardness of about 57-58 HRC. Choosing the right steel for knives is a complex task. The steel must be hard enough to provide durability, but not too hard or it will break during use. At the same time, it should not be too soft either, otherwise the knife will lose its sharpness very quickly. After the blades have been forged and sharpened, they will go through a process called ice hardening. The knives are cooled down to -80 °C to improve the microstructure in the steel. This creates a corrosion-resistant and hard blade that will not easily break!
Handle material of Güde Alpha kitchen knives
The handles are made from Hostaform. Hostaform is a very sturdy plastic that is resistant to moisture, heat and falls. According to Güde, these knives are dishwasher safe. The scales are attached to the steel with rivets, giving the knives a traditional look.
The bolster of the knife functions as a finger-guard and a weight to ensure perfect balance. The metal pommel at the end of the handle gives the knife its characteristic profile. These knives have a full-tang construction. This means that the blade runs throughout the entire handle. It ensures the knife is perfectly balanced.
